Behind the Design of the all-new 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid

The 2027 Nissan Rogue is arriving with an all-new hybrid that has a completely fresh look, inside and out.

As Nissan's most popular vehicle in North America, designers carefully created a new model that provides an unmistakably modern impression while remaining mature. They also wanted the design to communicate the fun, confident driving experience provided by Rogue Hybrid's e‑POWER powertrain and standard all-wheel drive.

"This is a new kind of Rogue, and the design needed to reflect that," said Hiren Patel, senior design manager at Nissan.

Blending toughness and refinement

Approaching the vehicle from the front, Rogue Hybrid appears wider than the outgoing model despite having similar dimensions.

"It's quite a bit tougher and more stout, yet refined," Patel said. "The grille and headlamps are nicely integrated, and there's a hexagonal pattern that blends into the available signature running lamps."

The running lamps are arranged in a two-three pattern, which is a nod to the Nissan brand: Two is ni in Japanese, and three is san.

"As you walk around the vehicle, you'll notice more places where we put things in sets of twos and threes," Patel said.

On the side, Rogue Hybrid's profile is defined by chiseled fenders and bold character lines.

The 2027 Rogue Hybrid introduces a new design that is both tough and refined.

Creases emanate from the bottom of the vehicle and draw the eye upward, making the cabin and fenders feel locked together.

"When people think about hybrids, they're thinking just about efficiency3. And with the new Rogue, there's excitement too," Patel said. "We wanted to communicate that visually – light gathers into sharp intersections and then bolts forward. This is especially clear when looking at Rogue's profile."

The C-pillar includes a reference to Nissan's Japanese heritage: As the beltline sweeps upward, it creates a triangular shape evoking Mount Fuji – a symbol of Japan. Atop the mountain is another two-three motif hidden behind the glass, this time evoking a cloud.

"You'll also notice a little cloud we've hidden at the peak of the mountain behind the glass," Patel said.

Rogue Hybrid will come with 18-inch wheels standard on SV, and 19-inch wheels standard on SR and Platinum models. Their designs echo the geometric shapes found throughout the vehicle.

"As the wheels rotate, the machined patterns reflect light and shadows in interesting, unique ways," Patel said.

The rear of the Rogue Hybrid continues that geometric theme, with crisp lines and fine details, especially in the full-width tail lights.

"As you get closer, you'll see there's a lot of fine patterning to the lamps. Those patterns are finer toward the center, and as they move toward the edge, they start growing," Patel explained. "That's one of the ways we visually create movement throughout the car."

The 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid's interior is filled with high-quality, soft-touch materials.

An airy interior with advanced, approachable technology

Take a seat inside Rogue Hybrid, and the design team's obsession with quality and attention to detail is clear. There are abundant soft-touch materials and stitching throughout, with thoughtful touches that make everyday life easier.

Every Rogue Hybrid comes standard with Zero Gravity seats (front and rear outboard positions), which are designed to support the body's natural posture and enhance comfort on long drives. On Platinum models, the quilting pattern is inspired by high-end down jackets.

"It provides that sense of premium comfort," Patel said. "You'll find that pattern on the seats, center console and on trim pieces throughout."

Rogue Hybrid comes with a host of technology features, including standard wireless Apple CarPlay® and wireless Android Auto™, a standard Qi2 wireless charger (with two standard on Platinum), available dual 14.3-inch displays and available Google Built-in with Google Gemini.

"The tech is laid out in the perfect place for it to be. The interior is a warm, inviting environment," Patel said.

Usability was a priority during Rogue Hybrid's development. To that end, designers expanded the storage area located under the front cupholders.

"People loved that in the 2026 Rogue model, and it continues in the 2027 Rogue Hybrid with a larger opening," Patel said.

Rogue Hybrid also has more front head room than any hybrid in its class4 and class-leading front leg room among hybrids5.

For the second row, doors open nearly 90 degrees for easy loading and unloading of children and car seats. Rogue Hybrid is also one of the only vehicles in its class6 with five LATCH points for securing car seats.

"Rogue has a legacy of being an excellent family vehicle, and our hybrid model continues that approach," Patel said. "The rear seats are just as important as the front."

Intentional material choices and physical buttons

Outside, Rogue Hybrid features very little chrome.

"That was intentional," Patel said. "The new Rogue Hybrid is more about sportiness and exciting, efficient driving. So, we wanted to reflect that in the material choices. We've moved away from chrome and more toward a flush, seamless execution throughout."

That attitude continues inside, where the design team deliberately limited use of piano black surfaces. Drivers will find durable, family-friendly matte materials in high-touch areas.

Designers also worked with engineers to ensure physical controls remained for the most commonly used features.

Cabin temperature, fan speed and airflow direction are controlled via buttons, as are the standard heated and available ventilated front seats. Volume is controlled through a scrolling wheel under the central screen or buttons on the steering wheel, and there are conventional turn signal and windshield wiper stalks.

"Ease of use was a priority in creating the Rogue Hybrid. We wanted the things you use the most to fall naturally to hand," Patel said.

The Nissan Rogue Hybrid features physical controls for climate, including fan speed, airflow direction, temperature, heated seats, and available ventilated seats and heated steering wheel.
