When the off-road adventure experts at the Overland Expo needed a truck for their annual "Ultimate Build," the Nissan Frontier was the obvious choice. This year's Overland Expo Ultimate Build takes the off-road-proven Nissan Frontier PRO-4X and elevates it into the ultimate overland adventure rig.
"It's no surprise that the Frontier makes a great base for overlanding, as Nissan has decades of history building tough, off-road-capable vehicles that take drivers way beyond the pavement," said Marco Fioravanti, vice president, product planning, Nissan U.S. and Canada. "Frontier PRO-4X is built to work hard and tackle nearly any terrain, right from the factory. And with 92% of Frontiers sold in the last decade still on the road1, drivers have confidence their vehicle has the durability to get them through their next adventure."
The Nissan Frontier Ultimate Build2 will make its public debut at Overland Expo® West, May 15-17, 2026, in Flagstaff, Arizona. The vehicle will then appear at additional Overland Expo events, industry gatherings and media drives.
Highly equipped for overlanding adventures
To prepare the Nissan Frontier for overlanding – the practice of modifying vehicles for self-reliant, long-distance off-road journeys and camping – the Overland Expo team added an extensive list of aftermarket and accessory components. Those include NISMO rock sliders, a heavy-duty winch system, additional lighting, a bed-mounted pop-up camper and more. See the full build list and find more details here.
"The Frontier PRO-4X is one of the most honest overland platforms on the market," said Anthony Sicola, Ultimate Vehicle Build project manager, Overland Expo. "It doesn't pretend to be something it's not – and that's exactly why it works so well. It's capable, comfortable and adaptable, which makes it a perfect canvas for long-term overland travel."
Built on a strong base
The Nissan Frontier is engineered to deliver the confident, dependable capability that truck owners need. Its 3.8-liter V6 engine is the most powerful naturally aspirated V6 in its class3. Built in the U.S. and rigorously tested for confident performance, the engine offers 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque.
Frontier PRO-4X helps drivers do more off-road, with Bilstein® suspension components, underbody skid plates, satin grey 17-inch alloy wheels with Lava Red lettering wrapped in Hankook Dynapro AT2 all-terrain tires. To further aid drivers in rough terrain, PRO-4X features an electric locking rear differential and available Intelligent Around View® Monitor with an Off-Road Mode4 that can be used while driving at up to 12 mph.
