Nissan declares May 6 “V6 Day” in full-throttle support of six-cylinder performance

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nissan has declared May 6 ("V/6") the first annual "V6 Day," giving one of the most iconic engine designs the celebration it deserves. For more than four decades, Nissan V6 engines have delivered power, durability and an emotional connection to the road that drivers crave. "For decades, the V6 has been the beating heart of some of Nissan's most iconic vehicles – delivering the durability, strength, and power our customers rely on," said Christian Meunier, chairman, Nissan Americas. "From the speed and acceleration of our sports cars to the confident torque that defines our trucks and SUVs, the V6 offers a rare balance of performance and dependability. The V6 is close to my heart and the hearts of millions of American drivers. It will play an important role in our lineup for years to come, particularly with the return of the mighty Xterra." Today, Nissan offers one of the industry's strongest and most diverse V6 lineups – from performance icons (Z) to family SUVs (Armada, Pathfinder) and hard‑working trucks (Frontier) – with more to come, including an all-new Xterra that will be powered by V6 or V6 Hybrid powertrains. Just as critical is where these engines are assembled: Generations of manufacturing team members have shaped Nissan's six‑cylinder legacy in the U.S. At its Decherd, Tennessee powertrain facility, the team recently produced its 20 millionth engine – fittingly, a V6. Since 1997, the Decherd plant has delivered almost 6.5 million V6 engines. "For decades, our teams around the world have assembled these engines with precision, pride and a deep sense of responsibility to our customers. That human commitment is what makes Nissan's V6 legacy endure." Nissan's V6 legacy began in the early 1980s with the VG series – one of the first mass‑produced V6 engines from a Japanese automaker. Built around a naturally balanced 60‑degree design, Nissan's V6 engines quickly earned a reputation for smoothness, durability and packaging efficiency. Over the decades, Nissan has continuously advanced this formula through innovations in materials, valve timing, fuel delivery and turbocharging – progress exemplified by the Nissan VQ‑series V6, which achieved an unprecedented 14‑year streak (1995–2008) on the WardsAuto 10 Best Engines list. The VQ family of engines has proven so reliable it's still in production after more than 30 years. At the apex of Nissan's V6 legacy sits the GT‑R, whose hand‑built, twin‑turbocharged VR38DETT engine, assembled by Takumi master craftsmen, helped redefine what a V6 could achieve on a global performance stage. To kick off V6 Day, Donut Media (with Nissan) is hosting enthusiasts and creators at Bob's Big Boy in Burbank, California from 6-9pm Wednesday, May. The historic restaurant is a weekly classic car show venue and a fitting backdrop for a celebration of automotive culture.
